Some COVID Survivors Are Reporting Hair Loss!
Is hair loss a possible complication of COVID-19, and if so, what can you do to treat it?
Many people who have had the coronavirus are reporting that they are experiencing hair loss. Does the coronavirus cause hair loss?
Doctors are seeing many COVID patients who say that they are losing their hair. The symptom is real; however, there is nothing about the virus or the infection itself that researchers say is a direct cause of hair loss.
Rather doctors think that having COVID results in a condition known as “telogen effluvium,” which is hair loss that is caused by stress or emotional trauma.
The condition is known to occur a few months after a stressful event such as emotional distress, major surgery, or high fever. It shifts more of a person’s hair to the telogen, or resting phase, of the hair growth cycle, which ultimately leads to losing hair.
“When there’s a shock to the system, the body goes into lockdown mode and only focuses on essential functions. Hair growth is not as essential as other functions, so you end up with hair shedding,” explained Dr. Susan Massick, a dermatologist at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
A survey of a Facebook COVID survivors group found that more than a third of 1700 respondents experienced hair loss after being diagnosed with COVID.
Doctors across the country had said that they had started seeing an uptick in patients with hair loss since mid-March of 2020, when most of the stay-at-home orders due to COVID went into effect. One dermatologist in New York said that there’d been at least a 25 percent increase in people coming in with hair loss.
What Everyone Needs to Know About the Restorative Powers of PRP!
Whether you are experiencing hair loss as the result of COVID-19 or anything else, you need to know that there is a remarkable, all-natural, drug-free, surgery-free treatment for hair loss that really works.
It’s called platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Platelet-rich plasma has become one of the most powerful tools we have to help our patients look and feel younger.
PRP was first used to relieve joint pain effectively and to speed up the healing of sports-related injuries. Soon after that, those of us in the age-management field found how this incredible, all-natural healing agent could be used to restore aging skin, to rejuvenate sexual health, and we are now using PRP for hair restoration and getting remarkable results.
At NuLife Institute, our goal is to seek out and put into practice the latest advances in rejuvenative medicine to keep our patients looking and feeling their absolute best!
As opposed to most other treatments for thinning hair, PRP:
- Is drug-free and surgery-free
- Is a simple in-office procedure, with each treatment taking only an hour or so.
- Provides thicker, more natural-looking hair
PRP can help you to get back the self-confidence that comes with a full head of hair.
